What is the best material for a knife block?
Keeping your high-quality kitchen knives safe in a great knife block is ideal for a few reasons. A knife block maintains your blade’s sharp edge, keeps your fingers safe, and looks beautiful on your countertop. At WÜSTHOF, we prefer knife blocks crafted from natural, sustainably sourced wood such as acacia, cherry, bamboo, beech, and ash.
How do you clean a knife block?
To clean your knife block, use a dry pipe cleaner or a small brush to gently scrub the individual slots. Then handwash the knife block with mild dish soap and a non-abrasive sponge — use that small brush or pipe cleaner once more to get into the crevices. Immediately dry your knife block with a soft kitchen towel and lay the towel out on a flat surface. Rest the knife block on the towel, either upright or on its side, and continue to let it air-dry for at least 2 and up to 24 hours. Reinsert the knives once the block and slots are all completely dry. One of WÜSTHOF’s magnetic knife blocks is a wonderful option for super simplified cleaning, since your knives would be stored outside the block on magnetic bars instead of inside slots.
What is the best knife block for beginners?
The best knife block for you is a matter of preference! If you’re a beginner, though, it might be nice to start with a fresh set of knives inside that knife block. If you opt for one of WÜSTHOF’s knife block sets, the Gourmet 6-Piece Starter Knife Block Set or one of our Classic Knife Block Sets are all great jumping-off points. All in all, you’re just looking for a sturdy, safe place to keep your nice blades, and 6 to 9 slots should do the trick to start.
Where should I put the knife block in my kitchen?
Knife blocks should be stored on a flat, stable surface in your kitchen, such as your kitchen counter. Every WÜSTHOF knife block features distinctly grained, sustainably sourced wood. In other words, our blocks are both beautiful and functional, so feel free to place them front and center to show of your good taste.
